We chose each ingredient in Happy Skin for its ability to help in the healing and repair process of the epidermis. We have outlined this information as follows.

    LAVENDER

Studies show that lavender essential oil is both antimicrobial and antifungal. This research specifically shows that it can kill Staphylococcus aureus, a type of bacteria that may cause eczema. Lavender essential oil also contains antioxidants that may help neutralize free radicals and may potentially reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. More research is needed, however, to confirm these effects. Lavender is also being studied for its ability to speed up the healing process and help prevent scarring through the stimulation of collagen production.

    FRANKINCENSE

Frankincense benefits include the ability to strengthen skin and improve its tone, elasticity, and defense mechanisms against bacteria, and some blemishes. Studies have shown frankincense to have anti-inflammatory and “tissue remodeling” properties, as well. Like lavender essential oil, frankincense may help tone and lift skin, reduce the appearance of scars (stretch marks, surgery scars) and acne, and assist in the healing of wounds. According to a review published in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, frankincense may reduce redness and skin irritation, supporting a more even skin tone. These studies suggest that it’s the steroid-like molecular structure of frankincense that contributes to its soothing effect on irritated skin.

    CLARY SAGE

Clary Sage essential oil contains an ester called linalyl acetate. Essentially, this powerful compound works to reduce skin inflammation, heal the epidermis and soothe skin. Check out the study! Clary sage oil has also been used to help heal severe dermatological infections caused by different strains of Staphylococcus bacteria.

    HELICHRYSUM

Research has shown that helichrysum essential oil inhibits the activity of collagenase and elastase, thus protecting our skin’s integrity and elasticity (as an antioxidant.) This anti-aging mechanism is mostly attributed to a molecule called Beta-diketone, one type of which (italidione) is found in Helichrysum! Helichrysum also contains a compound called curcumene, which is antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Perfect for small cuts, acne, etc. "Tissue remodeling" is the final stage in wound healing, during which the excess collagen produced by the skin in order to close and heal the wound, is broken back down to reveal a new layer of intact skin. This study shows that helichrysum helps with this process to minimize the appearance of scars.

    SANDALWOOD

Sandalwood essential oil is high in antioxidants, which help to fight the free radicals that cause age-related skin damage. It’s also used to reduce the appearance of dark circles and other dark spots appearing on the skin. As an antiseptic and astringent, it also helps to clean the pores and reduce inflammation. What’s more, studies have shown that sandalwood helps with skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
